Scientifically its is also known as "Phyllanthus emblica" while searching more over more about this fruit i got to know how this fruit is actually harvested. The tree is small to medium in size, reaching 8 to 18 m in height, with a crooked trunk and spreading branches. The branch-lets are glabrous or finely pubescent, 10–20 cm long, usually deciduous; the leaves are simple, subsessile and closely set along branch-lets, light green, resembling pinnate leaves. The flowers are greenish-yellow. And Gooseberry was specifically used being the production was in abundance. All they need to do was cooking the Amla with all the spices and then leave it in an air tight container to mature. Goose berry is rich in Vitamin C so helps in retaining gum problems and also helps in clarifying the blood in body .
If we need to cook the same i would love to cook it in sugar syrup and water and when soften up will leave it for maturing, after which its gonna dance over the taste buds like anything.

Ingredients:-
Method of Cooking (Boiling)
Step 1 -Place amla in a pan, add two cups of water and cover and cook on low heat for ten to fifteen till amla is tender and water has reduced to half the quantity.
Step 2-Drain, separate the amla segments, remove the seeds and set aside. Reserve the cooking liquour.
Step 3-Heat sugar with one and a half liter of water in a thick-bottomed pan, till sugar dissolves completely and forms a syrup of one string consistency.
Step 4-Add amla and continue to cook. Add crushed black cardamom seeds, almonds and saffron.
Step 5-Continue to cook, uncovered, on low heat till the mixture is thick and translucent. The syrup by now should be of two-string consistency. Cool and store in airtight jars.
Observation:-
The maturing depends from place to place.Ideal for maturing the place should be warm and dry. In ancient time maturing was basically done so as to preserve fruits and veggies basically the maturer(Sugar syrup) stops air and moisture from entering into food materials.
